Company overview

American Crane & Equipment Corporation designs and builds custom overhead cranes. The company engineers its hardware for environments where off-the-shelf equipment won't work: nuclear power plants with strict quality assurance requirements, clean rooms where contamination must be controlled at the particle level, aerospace facilities assembling rocket components, and steel mills handling molten metal. The hardware lineup includes single and multiple girder bridge cranes, gantry cranes (freestanding units that don't need ceiling-mounted runway beams), jib cranes (swing-arm lifters for individual workstations), stacker cranes for automated warehouse retrieval, and below-the-hook lifting devices that attach to the crane's hoist for specialized gripping and handling tasks. On the software side, NORLINK's Smart Crane System attaches sensors to a crane and continuously collects data on every movement—travel distance, lift height, speeds, load weights, limit switch states, motor amperage, and drive fault codes—streaming it to a cloud dashboard accessible through any web browser or mobile device. A companion product, the NORLINK Machine Health Monitor, extends the same condition monitoring approach to non-crane industrial equipment.

American Crane operates a hybrid machine-as-a-service model that layers a recurring IoT subscription onto capital equipment sales. Customers purchase custom cranes—each one designed with the facility's structural requirements, lifting capacity, duty cycle, and regulatory environment in mind—and then subscribe to NORLINK for ongoing cloud-based monitoring. The subscription delivers real-time alerts when a crane approaches a safety threshold or shows signs of mechanical wear, predictive maintenance analytics that flag problems before they cause unplanned downtime, and utilization reports that show exactly how much each crane is being used and where. Beyond the subscription, American Crane generates recurring revenue from field services, OSHA-mandated inspections, load testing, equipment upgrades and rebuilds, and plant outage support: services that keep the company connected to every crane it has installed for the decades-long life of the equipment.
