Company overview

Beefutures builds sensor hardware and AI software that turn beehives into environmental monitoring stations. The Onibi Base is a smart bottom board that slides beneath an existing hive, tracking temperature, humidity, weight, and internal acoustics through integrated sensors. Solar-powered and connected via mobile networks, each base transmits data continuously without requiring grid power or Wi-Fi. The Onibi Watch mounts at the hive entrance and adds cameras and microphones for AI-powered visual and audio analysis, tracking foraging intensity, daily bee losses, pollen diversity, and decoding waggle dances to map where colonies find food. The Onibi Light, co-developed with University College London, applies red and near-infrared light therapy inside the hive to stimulate bee mitochondria and boost cellular energy production. In controlled studies, treated colonies showed six times greater pollination effectiveness than untreated groups when exposed to heat, pesticides, and extreme weather. The Onibi App gives beekeepers a management interface for hive and apiary operations, while Onibi Insight processes the sensor data through AI algorithms to generate biodiversity assessments and environmental health reports for ESG reporting.

Beefutures works exclusively with organizations and businesses—farms, land managers, environmental consultancies, and corporations with ESG commitments—deploying Onibi hardware at customer sites and delivering ongoing biodiversity monitoring and analytics through its cloud platform as a hybrid hardware-as-a-service model. Each deployment transforms a cluster of beehives into a distributed sensor network: the hardware collects raw data on colony behavior and environmental conditions, and the Onibi Insight service interprets that data into actionable biodiversity metrics on a continuous basis. A single season of monitoring establishes a baseline; successive seasons reveal trends in pollinator health, habitat quality, and the impact of land management decisions—the kind of longitudinal data that organizations need for credible ESG reporting and cannot generate from a one-time assessment.

"When the bees stop buzzing, our food stops growing. That's the real story," says Christophe Brod, Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Beefutures. "Stronger bees mean stronger food systems—with Onibi Light, we are giving beekeepers and growers a practical tool to protect the very foundation of agriculture."
