Company overview
ChargePoint develops EV charging infrastructure that helps businesses, fleets, and drivers power electric vehicles at scale. Its hardware portfolio spans Level 2 AC chargers for workplaces and multifamily properties, DC fast chargers for retail and transit corridors, and residential units for home charging. Each charger is designed to be connected and software-driven, with built-in networking and energy management capabilities. ChargePoint’s cloud platform provides the control layer on top of this hardware, offering remote monitoring, charger health, pricing management, payment processing, and AI-assisted fleet tools. The software also supports OCPP-compliant chargers, allowing operators to manage mixed fleets of ChargePoint and third-party stations from a single dashboard.
ChargePoint uses a hybrid commercial model that pairs capital equipment purchases with subscription software. Businesses and homeowners typically buy charging stations upfront, then activate a software plan that powers remote management, updates, analytics, and network services. For organizations that prefer predictable operating expenses, ChargePoint offers ChargePoint as a Service, a subscription bundle that includes hardware, installation, software, and support under a multi-year contract. This mix allows customers to choose between owning infrastructure outright or subscribing to a fully managed charging service, depending on their operational and financial requirements.“The new ChargePoint Platform is more than just modernized software, it is a catalyst for an electrified future,” says Rick Wilmer, Chief Executive Officer at ChargePoint.
“ChargePoint has manifested our deep expertise in EV charging to deliver the industry’s most advanced software platform, which is complemented by a robust hardware integration to enable our customers to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility, regardless of what charger models they are operating in the field.”
