Company overview

OpenEye builds integrated video-surveillance systems that combine on-premise recording hardware with a cloud-managed software platform. The company manufactures IP cameras, NVRs, and turnkey recording appliances designed for retailers, restaurants, multi-site enterprises, and critical-infrastructure environments. These devices connect to OpenEye Web Services (OWS), a cloud-based management layer that provides centralized configuration, health monitoring, remote software updates, user administration, and cross-site visibility. Through OWS, security teams can access live and recorded video from anywhere, manage fleets of cameras across hundreds of locations, and integrate video data with access control, alarms, and analytics platforms.
The company uses a hybrid commercial model: customers purchase the hardware outright and subscribe to the OWS cloud platform for ongoing digital intelligence. Cameras and recorders are bought through OpenEye’s channel partners, while OWS is delivered as a recurring subscription billed monthly or annually per device or per site. The subscription includes remote access, proactive system-health monitoring, cloud-based configuration backup, video syncing, and continuous feature updates. This structure blends durable hardware ownership with SaaS-based operational value, giving organizations predictable costs, simplified maintenance, and a continually improving security system.
“A subscription model offers users a more predictable way to budget for updates and maintenance of video solutions as an operating expense,” says Ian Siemer, VP of Product at OpenEye. “The monthly fee also reduces the upfront capital cost of the initial installation and eliminates lumpy renewal costs normally associated with software maintenance agreements.”
